My Mom Rocks

This is a day late, but consider it a Mother's Day post :-) I just read another blog where the writer listed things their mother did to make their house a home during the writer's childhood. And you know, as I sit here and try to think of similar memories - the truth is that the most important memory I have of my mom is that she was there. She was always present, always in tune with what we were up to, always a safe place to get a gentle hug (not the kind you have to squirm to get out of - like I give to Madalyn!). She was at our sports games and field trips and school activities (she was the sno cone lady!).

I think that's my favorite thing about my mom - she was undoubtedly available and invested in my life. Even today she answers my calls!! (and that really is generous of her - I call several times a day, and sometimes when we spoke 10 minutes ago and I have nothing new to say) (I'm not making this up, it's true). I guess that only now that I'm a mother, do I see the kind of love that is behind that presence and attention she gave. And now, looking back, I can feel what a tremendous difference it made. I love my mom. She rocks!
